Why

Crissi Honrath

Creativity has always been part of my life.

It has never existed in just one form.

In colours.

In spaces.

In the way I think.

At some point, it found its way onto the canvas.

Painting never began with the goal of becoming an artist.

It grew from a deep inner need.

Without expectations.

Without a destination.

To this day, every painting begins without a sketch or a reference.

I simply follow my intuition.

I never know what will emerge.

I don't paint from an idea.

The idea appears while I'm painting.

I'm not trying to tell a story.

My paintings tell me something that I first have to discover and understand myself.

I love it when something happens to the person standing in front of the painting.

When it moves them.

When it inspires them.

When it raises questions.

Everyone discovers something different.

Then there is that one moment.

I'm no longer looking at the painting.

The painting is looking at me.

That's when I stop.
